What is NZSKATESPOTS?
  • Actively being developed, modified and improved.
  • NZSKATESPOTS aims to build the most complete directory of every skateable spot across the whole of Aotearoa New Zealand — skateparks, street spots, DIY builds and skate shops.
  • We have the largest list of verified skate spots in New Zealand, currently sitting at 783+ locations, and it only continues to grow as the community adds to it.
  • It's a free platform for discovering, sharing and planning around skate spots - built by a skater, for skaters with no gatekeeping.
  • Beyond the directory, the site has grown into a small ecosystem : an interactive map, a road trip planner, a location-guessing game, a personal stats & achievements dashboard and live "who's skating right now" check-ins.
Why?
  • Because a complete, up-to-date list didn't exist — and it should.
  • As a skater who road trips, having a real skate spot directory and map guide is invaluable.
  • Existing resources were incomplete, outdated or clunky to use, so this is a modern, mobile-friendly alternative built for skaters on the go.
  • Skate spots are usually local knowledge — unless you're a local or you're specifically searching while travelling, you'll never know they exist.
  • We want to take that local knowledge and make it available to the whole NZ skateboarding community, not just whoever grew up nearby.
Features

Directory

  • A filterable directory of every skate spot in New Zealand, sortable A–Z or by distance from your location.
  • Filter by obstacle type (bowls, vert, rails, stairs, DIY, pump tracks, snake runs and more), by island, or a combination.
  • Each spot has its own detailed history and description, tags, photos and a live weather widget.
  • Star your favourite spots — favourites sync to your account across devices when you're signed in.
  • Skate shops are being added progressively.

Interactive Map

  • Every spot plotted on a full map with clustering, satellite/street toggling and island filters.
  • One-tap directions straight to Google Maps from your phone.

Road Trip Planner

  • Plan a route between two points and see every skate spot along the way.
  • Add up to 23 stops, reorder them manually or let it auto-optimise the fastest route.
  • A step-by-step route overview lists each leg with the skate spot's name, its address, and the distance/time to get there.
  • Save trips locally on your device so you can reload or reuse them later — no account or sign-in needed.
  • Partway through a trip? Use "I'm Here" on your current stop to drop everything already visited and carry the plan on from where you actually are.
  • Share the finished itinerary straight to Google Maps.

"I'm Here Skating Now" — Live Check-ins

  • Check in at a spot to let the community know you're there right now, and see who else is currently skating a park.
  • Check-ins automatically clear themselves out after a few hours, and moving to a new spot clears you from the old one.
  • Every check-in becomes a logged session — checking out lets you rate that session 1–10, and you can go back and fix the check-in/check-out time afterwards if you forgot to check out on time.
  • Made a mistake? Sessions can be edited or deleted at any time from Your Stats, with an undo option straight after deleting.

Your Stats & Achievements

  • A personal dashboard tracking total sessions, hours skated, streaks, favourite parks and session ratings.
  • Charts covering monthly hours, time of day, ratings breakdowns, activity heatmaps, a seasons & trends tab built around the NZ meteorological calendar, and day-of-week patterns.
  • Collectible achievement badges spanning streaks, distance travelled, spot variety (bowl hunter, rail rider, stair master, DIY devotee and more), island coverage, session ratings and milestones like your first session or Go Skateboarding Day.
  • Your GeoGuesser personal bests and leaderboard placement are surfaced here too, independent of your check-in history.
  • Full control over your data: edit or delete individual sessions (with undo), see exactly what's stored against your account, export your data, or delete your account entirely.

GeoGuesser

  • A skate-spot guessing game — you're shown a real photo from one of our listed spots and have to pin its location on the map.
  • Choose North Island, South Island or Both Islands, then play a 5-round game with skip-round support if a photo stumps you.
  • Scoring rewards accuracy — the closer your guess, the more points, with a "perfect round" bonus for pinning within 500 metres.
  • Tracks your best game score, best single round, average guess distance and perfect-round count.
  • Cloud-synced personal bests and a top-25 leaderboard for each region (North / South / Both), visible from Your Stats too.

Community Contributions

  • Anyone can submit a new spot with a description, location pin, obstacle tags and photos.
  • Missing images on an existing spot can be added by the community too.
  • This is a genuinely live project — it's constantly being improved and expanded, not a static list that goes stale.
  • It is completely free to use, with no advertising, and we do not sell your data. Ever.

Privacy & Tracking
  • This website uses two basic analytics tools, Google Analytics and gnr counter, solely to understand general site usage patterns and improve the user experience.
  • We do not track individual users, collect personal information or sell data to third parties.
  • If you sign in, we store the minimum needed to run the features you use: your account ID, display name and photo (via Google Sign-In), your check-ins/sessions, favourites, and GeoGuesser scores. This is used only to power your own stats page and the community "who's here now" feature — it is never sold or shared with advertisers.
  • The Road Trip Planner's saved trips don't require signing in at all — they're stored only in your browser's local storage on your own device, and we never receive or store that data on our servers.
  • As a completely free resource for the New Zealand skateboarding community, our only goal is to provide comprehensive information about skate spots, skate parks and skate shops without any commercial interest.
  • The minimal data collected through analytics is used only for things like visitor counts and page views to help us maintain and improve this community service.
  • We have no affiliation with any marketing or advertising companies that would profit from user information.
  • Any advertising or product promotion that may appear on this site in the future is targeted at the general skateboarding population as a whole and never at individual users based on their browsing behaviour or personal data.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • You can request an export or permanent deletion of your account and associated data at any time from the Account tab on Your Stats, or by contacting us.
  • NZSKATESPOTS does not claim ownership of any images displayed on this website.
  • By uploading images, users confirm they have the necessary permissions and rights to share these images.
  • If you believe any image on this site infringes upon your copyright or was uploaded without proper permission, please contact us immediately for removal.
  • Include the skate spot name and image number on the page containing the image, and proof of ownership when requesting removal.
  • We will promptly review and remove any content found to be in violation of copyright laws.
Report Copyright Issue
  • This website uses essential cookies and browser storage only for basic functionality — for example, keeping you signed in and remembering your filter preferences.
  • Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us remember your preferences and settings during your visit.
  • We do not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across other websites.
  • Trips you save in the Road Trip Planner's "My Trips" panel are stored using your browser's local storage, entirely on your own device — no account or sign-in is needed, and this data is never sent to our servers. It won't appear on other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data will permanently remove it.
  • The website utilises image caching to improve performance — viewed images and used resources are temporarily stored on your device when you visit.
  • This cache is valid for 1 day, meaning your browser will use the stored images and resources instead of downloading them again on subsequent visits within this period.
  • The cache duration may vary when code updates are deployed, to ensure you receive the most current version of the website.
  • Caching significantly improves page load times and reduces bandwidth usage for both users and our servers.

F.A.Q
  • Can I post my graffiti pics up: No hate here — if they show the skatepark from a new or updated angle to what's currently available, sure. Keep in mind this is a skate spot finder site, so if you're pimping graff pieces specifically, a Facebook group might be a better home for it.
  • Will you let me add ratings or reviews of a spot: We don't accept direct star-ratings or written reviews on parks themselves — skatepark experiences are too personal, a beginner's perfect park is an expert's boring layout, and vice versa. But if you sign in and check in to a spot, you can rate that session 1–10 when you check out. Those session ratings roll up to reflect how skaters actually feel after sessioning the park, without turning it into a one-off review system.
  • I heard there are secret spots, where are they listed: ...the first rule of skate club is...
  • What's one of the best things you've seen or heard at the skatepark: "I don't want to be scared anymore" — then dropped in. Pure joy and smiles from here to Africa.
  • When was the first user submission: 20 September 2025, 7:33am.
  • Is this an official or commercial product: No — NZSKATESPOTS is an independent, community-run passion project, not affiliated with any skate brand, council or business.
